Introduction to Joomla

Joomla 4, the first beta version, was launched at the year-end of 2018, with a stable release in the initial year of 2019. This has been a revolutionary step for the Joomla CMS by keeping the promise to bring the Joomla glory back. But even though we have got a new version of Joomla, there is still a lot of work to do. 

Joomla is the second most popular CMS (Content Management System). 

This open-source software offers several benefits, which makes it popular for building community websites, blogs, business websites, scalable and secure web applications, and a lot more.  

The Internet for businesses has evolved more than we could have imagined a decade ago. Every business, however big or small, today has a website. Add to it the number of sites that are owned and run by individuals, and you have a considerable number. 

In the day and age of highly sophisticated technology, many organizations are under the impression that because they’ve implemented all the latest innovations, their Joomla site is resilient to any kind of cyber attack. But the question is: are the measures good enough? Is modern technology implementation enough to protect the privacy and confidentiality of data?

• Not using language constants and instead of hard coding language strings
• Not using JInput and instead directly accessing $_POST or $_GET
• Not using the Joomla Database layer and writing plain database queries instead
• Wrong usage of loadObjectList / loadAssocList() (Using loadObjectList() when just 1 row is needed)

Joomla has tried to create a content manager / CCK for several years now. Though the project has been inactive, there are a few database tables that Joomla still uses, mainly for storing content history. Although the original UCM in its spirit isn’t part of Joomla, similar functionality has been introduced by article fields.
