Joomla 3.0 is here. 3 Things that Matter most!

Joomla 3.0 was released a few minutes back & it brings some revolutionary changes to the Joomla world. From 1.0 to 1.5 to 2.5, Joomla has been notorious for laborious migration processes. We bid adieu to migrations with 3.0. I admit this has really happened in the 1.6, 1.7 versions which were at the best forgettable. So 3.0 is the first real version that shows this. This I believe is the biggest news for Joomla end users. With this Joomla has given yet another reason to stick with this awesome & versatile platform.

So Should you upgrade?

Joomla 3.0 is an STS or short-term release which will be supported for 6 months. 3.0 has been created specifically for developers and high-end Joomla users who will be comfortable with frequent upgrade cycles. Joomla 3.0 will go through iterations till April 2013 when Joomla 3.5 the next Long-term release shall be out. For most users, there is no need to upgrade till the 3.5 LTS comes out.

Joomla 2.5 is the preferred platform for a vast majority of the users - Firstly It's Stable, Secondly, Majority of the extensions support Joomla 2.5  & finally its supported till April 2013. Even if you are starting a new project now, I would suggest using Joomla 2.5. That's what LTS's are for!  And as I said above, don't worry when 3.5 comes it's going to be an upgrade - Not a migration. So rest easy & let Joomla do its magic!

When will Techjoomla Extensions be 3.0 Compatible?

We are already onto it & you can start expecting the first 3.0 compatible releases as early as next week. Or if we can manage it sooner! At the latest, the last of our extensions shall be 3.0 compatible by the end of October.
