JGive and Data Privacy

If you are using JGive on your Joomla site, you can use information from sections below (1. & 2.) to include in your privacy, cookie policies.

1. What data JGive is collecting?

The first step you could take towards making your JGive extension compliant with GDPR is to check what kinds of data we are collecting. Any detail that can reflect an individual person is personal data. First name, last name, city, state, country, email, phone number, address, zip code, vat number etc. All of them count as personal data.

In JGive, there are primarily three places where you would be asking for your customer’s personal details:

If you are using JGive as the multi-vendor system, during sign up - name, email, phone number etc.
While creating a campaign - name, email, address, city, state, country, zip, phone (To ensure the security of the site and to prevent abuse).
While donating/ investing in a campaign - name, email, address, zip code, phone number, VAT number, IP Address (To ensure the security of the site and to prevent abuse)

2. Mention use of data in terms and conditions

If you are collecting an information from your customer, you should let them know why you need the information and this is the main object of GDPR. For example, when you are storing the customer’s email for uniquely identifying users, just tell them that is why you need their address. Where? In the terms and conditions, and in the privacy policy. The customers can read your policies, and they can decide whether to share their information or not.

To save user consent for the new terms and condition on your campaign creation, donation/investment page, we have added our horizontal extension “TJPrivacy”, which will save the user consents.

To add Terms and condition article ID for the campaign, donation added the respective configurations field in the JGive component configuration page.

3. Donation/Investment fields

Since we are talking about getting only what is “needed”, you should be looking into what information you are getting input from your customer. With JGive, you can configure donation/ investment fields, or hide the unnecessary fields. Go to JGive component configurations and turn on the setting “Hide selected fields on donation page” and select the fields from "Select fields to hide on donation page" drop-down which you want to hide.
