Download, install and enable the plugin. Then open any Joomla content article for editing, add rt in curly braces {rt} and save the article.

How to view 'Return to top' content plugin in action

View the article in which you have added the text {rt} at Joomla frontend and you will see a link created to let you jump to top of the article.
