Cronjob not sending emails

Emails have not been sent once the cronjob was run. If i check the `tjnewemail_alert` table i see a 'date' field, does this relate to when the last email was sent? I modified this on my user id to an earlier date, ran the cronjob but I didn't recieve an email, and the modified date didn't change.
