When you use the Find Friends or Invite Friends feature on Facebook, it stores your imported contact data in order to generate friend suggestions for you & others. This is a pretty nifty feature, however some people might think that it invades their privacy.
With the Imported Contact Analysis Feature, we bring the same feature to JomSocial & CB with our People Suggest Extension. If you chose to use this feature, we recommend that you let your users know that you are doing this. Note that you need to be using
Invitex as your viral invitations system in order to use this. In Invitex, you will find an option to "Store Imported Contact information for People Suggest". Switch that on to use this feature in People suggest.
How are the Imported Contacts Used ?
We use various algorithms to compare your mutual friends, your & their Contact import data in order to find people that you are most likely to know. The Algorithm in its simplest form is like People You May Know. However its based of very different data. Using this feature gives us access to much more data thereby allowing us to show more accurate suggestions.
Are the Contacts stored Secure?
Absolutely. They are simply stored for the purpose of doing suggestion analysis in your own website's database. So the data is as secure as your website is. In the next version we shall add features to let users have a preference on whether to let them store this data or not & delete their data if they want, to give them full control.
