Hi,

I have been discussing with Techjoomla about adding a venue management feature to the Jticketing software and they have said something like this would be considered if there was enough interest from other users. So let us know what you think.

The Issue

The Jticketing software is great and very versatile, but we have found that the more you try to localize it's application the more difficult it becomes to manage. The software works great if you are operating a generic community where users make their own independent events using either a public or their own location and their own resources. So, for example, this works well if you were organizing a paid pub crawl in your local town.

However, if you try to localize the events to within a business or using finite resources you quickly run into problems with venue management.

Examples:

If you own a few rooms for holding events in that you would like to rent out on a commission basis using Jticketing it is currently not possible to stop users creating 2 events in the same room at the same time. An example where this may be applicable would be if you were allowing community members to host their own conferences.

If you are operating game servers that you would like the community to be able to host paid events on. Each game server has a finite number of slots at any given time so again there are problems with users creating events that overlap.

If your community grows sufficiently large enough, you could run into the case where 2 groups in your community accidentally plan an event at the same public location. E.g. beach parties, outdoor music performances etc.

Solution
There needs to be some form of venue management where Jticketing verifies the event location and time with a calendar when a users creates an event and it should stop events being created in the same slot. This may be a problem with the current Jomsocial setup as I think when you are creating an event the location is just a simple string that the user inputs. If this is the case could a function be added to Jticketing so there is an option in the backend where locations can be defined for paid events that is accessed from a drop down during event creation and over-rides the standard event location? This way Jticketing would have a set of standard variables (locations) to check for overlap when users are creating events.

If you think the Jticketing software would benefit from development with venue management or have any comments please post below.
