Sneak Peek- JoomlArt’s new Free Joomla template JA Simpli

Sneak Peek- JoomlArt’s new Free Joomla template JA Simpli

A new idea which poped out of a general discussion between some innovative and geeky minds from Techjoomla, JoomlaShine, JoomlArt, Stackideas, Joomlatools and JoomlaCorner of developing a template which would be simple, light weight and one of a kind. Our friends at JoomlArt made sure that this idea turned into a reality which gave birth to JA- Simpli.

What's so special about JA- Simpli?

Well, you can say that this is the template which was missing in Joomla 3 or maybe the unofficial Joomla template because this template does not use any framework. Yeah, you read it right it does not have any framework and uses Joomla default template structure with integrated bootstrap and a template customizer. The template is fully responsive, has multiple ready to use layouts and plenty more...

Well, we liked it so much and we appreciated their effort by giving a testimonial. The creation of this template in a time where templates without any special 'frameworks' are not thought of anymore, this has proven that there is plenty of room to innovate.

Shika 1.0 has landed

Shika 1.0 has landed

Its February 22nd 2016. Just over 4 years when we first flirted with the idea of creating a learning management system. May 2014 saw Shika enter Techjoomla Labs. 21 months , 8000+ hours of development time and 350,000 + lines of code later, we are proud, (albeit exhausted and excited at the same time !) to present to you Shika 1.0.

Since its announcement, Shika has caused a lot of excitement in the Joomla community and all your love and feedback is what has powered and inspired us and will continue to do so. It’s been an amazing journey so far a lot of it documented via our blog.

A lot of love, feedback and code has gone into making this first cut of our dream come true. Here’s a quick look at what we have to offer.

Send Joomla email via Amazon SES

Sending-Joomla-email-via-Amazon-SES

Reliable email delivery is key in web applications, you don't want your customers to miss that order confirmation email or skip that very important Social Network notification. When using a service like Amazon SES, that additionally helps you improve your email sending quota if your web host gives you a rather small quota. It's fairly easy to get up and running with Amazon SES. You'll need to have an account with Amazon AWS (of course!)

Then, just follow these steps to get going -

Set up your Amazon SES account for sending

The Joomla Speak! In Conversation with Peter Bui

The Joomla Speak! In Conversation with Peter Bui

We are going to talk to Peter Bui, Managing Director of PB Web Development in this The Joomla Speak interview. I met him at the Joomla World Conference 2015, Bangalore, India. A fun loving person who is also a Joomla Enthusiast and Contributor. Let’s get to know his thoughts on Joomla!

What's your Joomla story? How did you get introduced?

In 2004 and 2005 I experimented with a lot of different platforms from WordPress to Moveable Type and Mambo. Playing around with all of them working out what was best for the projects that I was building at that time lead me to choose Mambo as my solution. Shortly after it split and forked with Joomla! The rest is history.

There’s lots of businesses built around Joomla - Extensions, Templates, Consulting, Services. How would you like these businesses to give back to Joomla? What's the best way in your opinion?

I believe the most important thing is the adoption of Joomla. Showing, educating and spreading Joomla is the most important thing.

Supporting custom module positions in your Joomla extension

Supporting custom module positions in your Joomla extension

Note: This Blog is targeted to developers!

Sometimes the module positions that come with your template are just not enough, or if you’re a developer you might want to allow your users to load modules inside various parts of your component.

A good example is if you want to publish Ads coming from SocialAds on your EasySocial stream without changing any default functionalities of the stream. You'd do this by loading the Social Ads module in one of the various positions that Easysocial has already set up on their stream.

A developer's guide to Use Dates in the right way in Joomla!

A developer's guide to Use Dates in the right way in Joomla!

When you are handling date and time, its likely that a developer might get confused on what is the right way to handle multiple timezones.

Let’s make this Crystal Clear!

As you can see in the Image below, the date selected is 2015-08-26 05:30:00, This is the user’s timezone date and time.

If we save the same date in our database it would mismatch for the person who is sitting on the other corner of the world.

In Conversation with Erik Folberth: From Creating a product to Launching it!

In Conversation with Erik Folberth: From Creating a product to Launching it!

Have you ever wondered what are the best practices in planning a new concept or idea and what goes into the process of turning ideas to realities?

We ourselves do a lot of Product Development here at Techjoomla as well as at our parent company. We have closely seen the process of  product development from ideation to production and marketing it. So it was very interesting to get another perspective at this when we interviewed  Erik Folberth from thePHPfactory (one of our partners). Let's see what he has to say!

What is your first thought on creating a new product?

It's always a good idea to analyze the mistakes from the past when working towards the creation of a new product, or of a new website.
